he shortlist for the 2011 Car of the Year Awards has been announced with the Nissan Leaf becoming the very first electric car to be in line to win the accolade. Its nomination is a ‘sign of changing times’ according to Autocar, one of the seven publications which organise the pan-European award.

Nissan deserves to be recognized for having the balls to stick with this program and deliver a really nice low-priced EV. Reply Seriously. It's pretty hard to compare anything conventional released this year with the Leaf.

This 5-passenger, 4-door hatchback runs exclusively on electric power. It uses a 107-horsepower electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. Nissan claims a maximum driving range of 100 miles.
